Dear Dorchester Families,
It has been wonderful to welcome all the children back to school this week; they have settled beautifully into their new classes and a raring to go with their learning. As always at the beginning of the year, we have had lots of new children join our community - a big Dorchester welcome goes to:
Ada, Callum, Daniel, Dylan, Esme, George, Hari, Jordynna, Makai, Abyaan, Athes, Dylan, Ellis, Elsie, Fateh, Finn, Mia, Stanley and Teddy in Reception, Prince in Year 1, Joey and Jessica in Year 2, Gabriela and Luke in Year 3, Ezaan and Tiyanshika in Year 4, Andrew, Jannat, Lola and Orla in Year 5 and Daniil, Muskandeep and Taha in Year 6. We are delighted to have you and your families with us and we look forward to getting to know you better.
Please come along to our Parent Welcome Meetings, which are being held next week for children in Years 1-6. Dates for Nursery and Reception will be sent out shortly. The meetings are held at the end of the school day and children and school-aged siblings will be supervised so that you can attend. The times are as follows, and further information is available in the letter here.
- Year 1 - Wednesday 11th (In Rose Classroom – Year Lead Miss Baldwin)
- Year 2 - Tuesday 10th (In Buttercup Classroom – Year Lead Miss Bromley)
- Year 3 - Thursday 12th (In Amber Classroom – Year Lead Mrs Macaulay)
- Year 4 - Wednesday 11th (In Green Classroom – Year Lead Mrs Cucharo)
- Year 5 - Tuesday 10th (In Indigo Classroom – Year Lead Mrs Rankin)
- Year 6 - Thursday 12th - (In Amethyst Classroom – Year Lead Mrs Wyman)
- Oasis Class - Wednesday 11th (In Oasis Palm Classroom – Mrs Hall)
Most of our co-curricular clubs begin next week (except our Year 5/6 netballers who braved Thursday's rainstorm to get started!). Details of all the clubs available are available here. If your child isn't yet signed up for a club, please take a look and see if there is anything available that might suit them - we have everything from football to musical theatre! Taking part in our co-curricular clubs is a great way to make new friends, sometimes across different year groups, and learn new skills.
On Friday 20th September, we will once again take part in Jeans for Genes Day, which raises money to support people living with genetic disorders and resultant disabilities. The children can come to school wearing jeans/denim shorts/denim skirts along with their uniform on their top half, in return for a donation in the buckets that will be available on the gates that morning.
Another upcoming event is Happy's Circus, which is being run by the schools in the Sutton Education Trust, of which Dorchester Primary is one. The circus uses no animals and is specially designed for primary school children - although it is done is such a way that adults find it brilliant too. Ticket sales will be opened up to all schools in Sutton soon, so if you want to secure yours, follow the link in the article below.
I know many of you like to be very well organised, and so I suggest you check the calendar on the school website and get the key dates in your calendar for this academic year - most big events (residential visits, sports days, Christmas and Summer Fair) are in there so that hopefully you can avoid clashes with other events. Upcoming dates are given below.
Enjoy the weekend.
