Making the most of Play
Did you know that children spend much more time at play than they do studying either Maths or English, yet often schools put much less thought into planning it?
Well, not at Dorchester! As a part of our commitment to children’s personal development, and a desire to ensure they make the best of all their time here at school, we will be starting the process of reorganising our outdoor play spaces next week.
As you also may know, we have seen the Scrapstore playpod's installation recently, and are now waiting for it to be filled with its first load of scrap bits over half term which means that playtimes will be transformed! In light of this, we thought it would be great to start diversifying and redesigning how our outdoor spaces are used in general, in the first step on our journey of playtimes becoming more inclusive, purposeful and fun for all.
The first play zones which will commence next week will be a 'Team sports zone' and a 'Creative play zone', with more zones to be designed, developed and introduced to the playground throughout this term and beyond.
The creative area will involve lots of chalk drawing and quiet games, tough trays with various bits to be artistic with and paper and crayons. Ideas are welcome to be suggested by all of the Dorchester community!
We cannot wait to start revolutionising our outdoor spaces, and our Junior Leadership Team (new name for school council!) will work together with the school community over time to develop and organise new play zones over the next few terms.
