The school Duke order has now gone in, and we anticipate the booklets for those who have ordered will arrive next week. If you have registered your interest, then the order will be on its way to the school. If you have not yet paid, please use your school gateway app where you can make the payment of £10. • Language and Music Ambassadors

    Published 17/10/24

Over the last two weeks both the language ambassadors and music ambassadors had their first leadership meetings.

    Language ambassadors

    - we discussed how within our group of school leaders there were over 17 languages spoken!

    - we unpicked what we thought were the core values of being a language ambassador, and how the roles would look over the year

    - we talked about the kinds of activities we would undertake in class and across the school over the year - e.g. language of the week, national language days, cultural celebration days etc.

    - we identified upper KS2 children as reading leaders who will support EAL children further down the school, or new arrivals who also share the same language. Below are Sahir and Minsong, two of our leading Year 6 language ambassadors.

    Music Ambassadors

    - we all introduced ourselves to one another, and expressed why we felt that music was a big part of our lives. Some answers included "Because I play an instrument...because I love the sounds music makes....because aIl love to sing and dance...because I really like rhythm....because I love rapping...because I love singing along to musicals."

    - we discussed what we thought all the positive traits of a music ambassador should be, including looking after being extra responsible for the musical instruments around the school

    - we thought about how we could promote the love of music more in our classes and across the school

    - we talked about the upcoming teatime concert, which will be hosted by two of our senior Year 6 music ambassadors, Raphael and Saoirse.

    - we had a jam in the key of C using a variety of musical instruments!

  • Junior Duke Awards registration still open

    Published 11/10/24

We have reopened registration for the Duke awards again until Monday 14th. Any parent or carer can register their interest in taking part in the awards this year, from Nursery to Year 6.

For families in Nursery, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 the cost is £10 and there is a link on School Gateway to be able to make the payment once your interest has been registered on the form below.

For Reception children, funded by the school - but please see below for details!

If your child is in Reception, we would like to remind you that we are able to offer to fund the Micro Duke awards for Reception families who are interested in taking part and will commit to supporting their child's Micro Duke journey over the year.

As you know, the awards do require family's input to support children in achieving their certificate and badge over the year - so if you as Reception parent feel this is something you will be able to help your child with, then please do register your interest below and we will happily fund the award for you as a 'Welcome to Dorchester' gift.

The reason we kindly ask for commitment, is that the awards cost us £10 per child, and we do not want to purchase books, certificates and badges for families who will not support their child on their journey of completing and logging activities along the way, leaving unused books badges and certificates to go to waste. With budgets being tight, we hope you can appreciate why we are asking!

If you feel for whatever reason these awards are not for your Reception child, then you do not need to complete the form below - but we would encourage families to consider doing so as the awards really do bring the most wonderful developmental and learning opportunities to your children, with a lovely book of evidence to have as a keepsake at the end of the year.
