    We have had a wonderful yet very busy week in Year 5. We had a lovely Christmas lunch on Wednesday and it was so special to see our Year 5s support their 'Little Friends 'with their first ever school Christmas lunch. Well done Year 5.

  • Year 5: What did you learn about The Tundra?

    The children have been learning all about the world's biomes this week. They focused their learning on the Tundra and researched and made Slides presentations on this fascinating biome. They looked at the devastating effect global warming is having on this biome and what we as global citizens can do to prevent further changes.

  • Year 5: Who is your little friend and what have you learnt about them already?

    The Year 5 children were delighted to meet their 'little friends' from the reception classes this week. They wrote lovely invitations to their friends inviting them to Christmas lunch. The Year 5 children are getting so much out of this special project in terms of some of our school values: responsibility, empathy and self-belief. We are looking forward to seeing these friendships develop further.

  • Year 5: What was it like onboard Titanic?

    Titanic Day was a blast on Thursday. The children really enjoyed the range of activities on offer. The children get so much from these WOW days, so thank you for all of your support preparing and organising their costumes. We will need using this wonderful experience to help write diaries as Titanic survivors.

  • Year 5: What are the countries in North America, and where are they located?

    This week the children have worked very hard completing assessment booklets in class. They also met their 'Little Friends' from Reception for the first time. This is a relationship we hope to nuture over the next year and into the Year 5 children's last year of Primary School. We were blown away by how kind, gentle and nurturing the children were whilst communicating and playing with the smaller children, and we look forward to watching the older children support the younger ones and these relationships go from strength to strength.

  • Year 5: What did you find out about Benjamin Zephaniah's life?

    The children have made it to the end of their first half-term in Year 5, and we are so proud of how well they have adjusted to Upper Key Stage 2. All the children really enjoyed their first Year 5 topic - The Vikings and we could see from their double-page spread assessments, they have retained so much information. We will spend time going over this knowledge all year so that it is firmly in their long-term memory. Happy Half Term everyone!

  • Year 5: What affects the rate of dissolving?

    We are nearly at the half-term mark! It has been a long but productive first half-term in Year 5. We are sure the children are exhausted as they learnt so much. 1 week to go until their well deserved break.

  • Year 5: Which materials are soluble and which are insoluble?

    What a fantastic week in Year 5. The children loved experimenting with different materials to see which dissolved and were therefore soluble materials. They discovered that flour, rice and chalk were insoluble and didn't dissolve in hot water. Please see the Peek of the Week to see what is coming up in Year 5.

  • Year 5: What made Britain such a desirable place for The Vikings to conquer?

    This week the children have been working so hard on writing descriptive sentences. They have been describing the setting and characters from our story with a particular focus on expanded noun phrases, relative clauses and ambitious word choice. We can't wait to hear their versions of the story in a few weeks.
