  • What are you going to include in your castle design?

    This week, the children have been busy drafting their Star Writes, focusing on describing the setting of the feast from Fantastic Mr Fox. They have shown great effort in using vivid vocabulary and adding interesting details to bring the scene to life. We are really looking forward to reading their published versions next week and seeing how their writing has developed.

    In addition to their writing, the children have been exploring nets in Design and Technology. They have investigated which nets are needed to create different 3D shapes, carefully considering how the pieces will fold and fit together. This work will help them next week when they will be constructing their own castles.

  • What are the physical features of Spain, Italy and Sweden?

    This week, Year 3 explored the physical features of Sweden, Italy and Spain. Using maps as a guide, the children created their own versions, carefully highlighting key features such as rivers, mountains and coastlines.

  • What did you learn on our Around the World Day?

    Year 3 had an exciting day this week exploring different European countries! Amber Class learned all about Spain, while Orange Class studied Italy. The children explored traditional foods, famous landmarks and aspects of culture from each country. They also investigated different cities: Amber Class recreated a Spanish city inspired by Gaudí’s art, while Orange Class built their own Leaning Tower of Pisa.

  • What are the human features of Venice, Stockholm and Barcelona?

    This week we have been looking at the human features found in Barcelona, Venice and Stockholm. We learnt how each city has its own unique landmarks, such as Barcelona’s busy streets and famous buildings, Venice’s winding canals, and Stockholm’s colourful old town.

  • How did you make your vegetable tart?

    The children have all had a brilliant week.  We begun the week with a DT day with a unit on cooking.  We peeled and chopped different vegetables before tasting them.  The children all tried new vegetables, including spinach, spring onions, cauliflower, cabbage and radishes.  We then looked at the nutritional value of them before designing our own vegetable tarts.  They all loved creating their tarts and tasting them!

    Orange Class were also excited to go on their trip to Pizza Express.  They learnt how to knead dough and about the ingredients needed to make a pizza.  They loved having them for lunch later that day.  Thank you to the parents for supporting us on the trip!

  • What was your favourite part of Stone Age Day

    Year 3 had a fantastic day on Tuesday with our Stone Age Day!  The children all looked amazing - thank you for helping them with their outfits, it definitely added to the excitment of the day.

    We went 'hunting for animals' in forest school and were fortunate enough to catch our lunch using spears!  (no animals were hurt, just a few popped balloons).  We then decorated stones, practised our potttery skills before making clay pots and then decorated our caves using paint and charcoal.  We hope the children all enjoyed it as much as we did!

  • How did you create your picture in Forest School

    This week in Forest School we have been creating picutures using natual materials.  We then experimented with making different animals or people using sticks, mud, leaves, berries and acorns.

  • How did you design your Venetian mask?

    This week we loved designing our Venetian masks inspired by the painting 'A Regatta on the Grand Canal'.  We can't wait to make them next week!

  • Where do Sikhs worship?

    This week Year 3 have really enjoyed our drama lesson based around 'Cave Baby'.  We acted out the story from the baby's perspective and also pretended to be the different animals that he met along the way.  We then added some drums to add an atmosphere to our drama and learnt different ways we could play the drum to represent different events.

  • What are you going to include in your story for the BBC 500 competition?

    This week, Amber Class had a fantastic trip to Pizza Express.  We learnt how to knead the dough to make the pizza base and what ingredients are needed to make the 'perfect margherita'.  The children all had a brilliant time and were very well behaved, following the instructions.   We then returned to school to have them for lunch.  Orange Class are very excited for their turn next half term!

    On Wednesday, we also joined the BBC 500 words live lesson (Amber Class watched it later in the day) and enjoyed coming up with ideas and vocabulary for our stories.  We can't wait to hear their competition entries!

  • What are the parts of the ukulele?

    This week we have been reading our class book 'George's Marvellous Medicine'.  We have loved reading the story and working on our comprehension skills.  We have also made a bank of the new vocabulary that we have learnt.

    This week, we also had our first ukulele lesson with Heather.  The children were all really engaged and learnt about the different parts of the ukulele, how to pluck and how to strum.  We even managed to all join in playing the tune to a song.
