Year 2: How have people adapted to the different climates in Southern Africa?

This week, we learned that there are lots of different climates across Southern Africa. In the hot and sunny areas, light and loose clothing to stay cool will be worn. They also build houses with materials that don't trap too much heat, so it's not too hot inside. In the cooler areas, more layers and different clothing are worn. They also build houses differently, with thicker walls to keep the warmth inside. Some people in Southern Africa also grow different types of crops and raise animals that are well-suited to the specific weather in their area.

The children used this knowledge, along with some new art skills, to work with clay and create a model home, similar to some of the traditional styles of homes found across Southern Africa in hotter climates.
