Reception: What is our school called and where is it?

This week the children have been exploring our school. We have learnt that our school is on Dorchester Road and is in Worcester Park. We discovered that near our school is the park and Worcester Park High Street. We looked at these places using Google Maps. The children drew their own maps of their classes and included lots of fantastic details. To find out more about Dorchester, the children went on a tour of the school to Mrs Bell’s office! On the way, we saw where lunch is prepared and met some of the lovely ladies who work in our school office. We later looked at the different jobs people have in school. We found out that Kurtis is our caretaker who has a busy job looking after the school building, Yippy is our lollipop lady who keeps us safe crossing the roads and Rosaria is our cleaner who keeps our classrooms tidy and clean. We decided that all school jobs are very special and important. In Maths, the children learnt about the properties of a square and identified where they could see this shape in the classroom and outside area. The children practised writing their letters in ‘Feed the Shush’ for the first time this week. The ‘Shush’ is a friendly creature who lives under our carpet and likes to eat our letters. The ‘Shush’ will only eat our letters if we have tried to form our letters really carefully.
