Netball Matches vs Cheam Common
Having had a well-earned, successful first group stage of the league last term, we progressed through as winners of our group to the top pool for this second half. This pitches us against the top teams from the other groups and so we knew that this would prove difficult and that we may find the games a little too challenging at this point.
With this in mind, we are approaching the games from the standpoint of gaining valuable experience against very strong opposition and also taking the opportunity to try to bring the basic skills we have to more pressured situations. It’s not easy and to go significantly behind in a match it really is a test of character to stick with it, not let heads drop and keep working to the final whistle. It was a heavy loss suffered by the A team yesterday, after so many wins before Christmas it really wasn’t a position they were used to, and this made it hard for them to settle and play their own game. They were beaten by a very good team but when we discussed the game afterwards we also knew that we could have played better had we been a little less overwhelmed. We can learn lots from this though and will approach the next game with a better understanding of the standard we will be facing. Our main aim will be to keep possession more carefully when we have the ball, which is something I know they will fight hard to do.
This was the first game for the B team and so a very difficult opener! They worked very hard though and basic skills such as footwork were excellent throughout. A few nerves were probably the cause of us not moving into space quite as confidently as we could, but there was excellent effort from everyone right through to the end and a positive attitude during and after the game.
A tough afternoon for you all but keep your heads up and be ready to go again! Well done to Hannah, Amelie, Lily, Macey, Scarlett, Matthew, Nirshana, Ora, Lusinda, Isobel, Anya, Nuwi, Tommie and Mia.
Players of the matches were Macey and Nuwi – both fought really hard and dug in to give one hundred percent effort and do all they could for the team.
