Year 5/6 Borough Athletics
Due to work going on at The David Weir Centre, this year’s Borough Athletics was just open to Year 5 and Year 6 athletes. It was a hot afternoon to be competing, but our Squad of 16 runners and our Team Manager were excellent ambassadors for Dorchester, both with their performances and their conduct throughout the competition.
The standard is always high at this event, but everyone who took part really gave their all and earned points for our overall team score.
Fantastically, we did come away with silver in two of the events – our Year 6 4 x 400m mixed relay team of Emilia, Vihaan, Claire and Danny ran brilliantly together in what is an extremely hard event, and new for this year, to come in second! This didn’t just rely on one runner doing well, all four had to run a great leg to earn this medal so this is a real achievement!
In a fabulous individual performance, Aiya sailed through the heat in the Year 5 Girls’ sprint and ran a fantastic race to win silver in the final! This is a great achievement made even more noteworthy by knowing that Aiya is still in Year 4 and was running up a year in this event. Having won the title last year in Year 3, we thought it only fitting that she should be able to still run this year despite the Year 4 competition not happening – and didn’t she just show everyone what a talent she is!
A special mention must also go to Jack who made it through the heats into the Year 6 Boys’ Sprint Final.
Very well done to Emilia, Claire, Macey, Evie, Danny, Vihaan, Jack, Archie, Macey, Amelie, Hannah, Aiya, Connor, Kieran, Harry, Paul and Team Manager Jessica.
