  • Year 4 Tag Rugby Festival

    Published 14/11/24
We sent an enthusiastic team of children over to John Fisher Playing Fields on Tuesday to take part in an introductory tag rugby festival led by Young Leaders from John Fisher Secondary School. Sports events like these are such a good way to help build our children’s confidence and encourage them to work with a variety of people, whilst also hopefully having lots of fun in the process.
The morning started with a variety of skills practices and then the teams were given the opportunity to play some friendly matches against the other schools there. This is always a great chance for some of our children to take part in a sports event off-site and also to experience some inter-school friendly competition. The Dorchester team really rose to the challenge, representing the school extremely well and also winning two of their four games.
Very well done to Jennevieve, Jaxon, Sophia, Idris, Bay, Toby and Jacob.

Year 5/6 Tag Rugby A Competition

The sun shone on the Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Team when they began their A Competition matches last week. They started well with a close, end to end game against , losing narrowly but proving that they were well-placed in the higher tier of the tournament. A win in the second game set us up well for the last group game – and then the rain started! Play continued through a heavy downpour but the team didn’t give up and managed another close result. The tournament did continue into the next rounds despite the conditions but our matches were cut slightly short as teams were finding it increasingly hard to play on with players who were drenched and starting to feel the cold. Dorchester were last team standing in their group so hats off to the children’s perseverance and also their level of play – it was a great effort and they threw everything they had at this.

Well done to Kieran, Matthew, Connor, Hannah, Gkalena, Macey, Aiya, Austin and Ora.

    Boys’ Football vs Cheam Fields
    Won 4-3
Resilience is key in sport and the opening match of the season for the boys was certainly a good example of this.
Dorchester were 2-0 down at half time but following a focused team talk they headed out for the second half with determination. Nathan led by example as captain and inspired a forceful come back finishing a hat trick leading to a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
Well done to all the players for their perseverance and to Matthew and Logan who were playing in their first ever football matches!
Team: Nathan, Kieran, Connor, Matthew, Logan, Gabby, Thiago, Macey, Archie, Harry, Teddy, Roman.

Boys’ Cup Football vs Wood Field
    Lost 4-0
The team made a really good effort against a strong opposition. They defended hard and managed to avoid conceding until just before half time. The second half proved harder to hold off the attacking play from Wood Field but the team battled all the way and never gave up. They should be very proud of their attitudes and determination – it just wasn’t meant to be this time.
Team: Nathan, Kieran, Matthew, Logan, Thiago, Macey, Archie, Teddy, Roman.
