Nursery: How do you do the up and down move for Squiggle whilst you wiggle?
This week in Nursery, we have continued to read ‘Little Glow’ by Katie Sahota. This book is all about different festivals that are celebrated at this time of the year. All of these festivals celebrate light and ‘Little Glow’ the candle celebrates them all. We have talked about Diwali divas, candles for birthdays, lights at Christmas and other light celebrations that use candles or lights. We have also read ‘The Story of Christmas’ by Hayley Down which explains why Christians celebrate Christmas. We have talked all about Mary and Joseph and their journey to Bethlehem on the donkey before baby Jesus was born. The children have enjoyed practising their nativity songs and are working hard to learn the Makaton signs. In Maths, we having been learning to compare the sizes of different objects using mathematical language such as short, long, tall, big and small. The children have also been developing their fine motor skills by safely using scissors to create paper chains. This week we started Squiggle whilst you wiggle. This is a writing program that we use to help the children to practise their large motor skills to get ready for writing. The children learn different movements each week to music. First we do the movements with our ‘flipper flappers’ and then we practise them using pens. This week we learnt to move up and down.
