Nursery: What is your favourite Australian animal?
This week in Nursery,
We have been learning all about Australia as part of the schools ‘Around the World’ week. The children were all very excited when we boarded an aeroplane and flew over the sea (using video clips to show what this looks like) and the children who have flown before enjoyed talking about what they saw and felt. We then landed in Australia and the children and enjoyed visiting some of the famous landmarks. We listened to some opera at the Sydney Opera House, we saw lots of fish at the Great Barrier reef, we travelled along Sydney Harbour Bridge and we saw Uluru. We also tasted Vegemite on bread and TimTams.
We also read a story called ‘Somewhere in Australia’ by Marcello Pennacchio. This story helped us to learn lots of different animals that live in Australia including a dingo, platypus, koala, kangaroo, kookaburra, Tasmanian devil, adder, thorny devil lizard, emu, tree frog and a red-back spider.
We have done lots of artwork making Australian flags, painting animals, printing circles to make aboriginal art, building the Sydney harbour bridge and using paper mache to make Uluru. The children have learnt lots of facts about the country and we are all really proud of them.
