Nursery: What does a habitat need to be a 'good place' for insects?

This week in Nursery we have been reading the story ‘A Good Place’ by Lucy Cousins. In this book we learn that different insects need different things in their habitats to make it a ‘good place’ for them to live. Bees need flowers for nectar, ladybirds need leaves, beetles need dead wood and dragonflies need a pond. We have been learning lots of different facts about insects. For example, we know that all insects have six legs, so spiders are not insects! This book also teaches us that we need to recycle our rubbish to make sure that we are not ruining a good habitat. We had a very exciting day on Wednesday when we visited Forest School to see if it would be a good place for insects to live. We found out that it had all of the things that the different insects would like in the environment. Of course we had to visit the chickens too and the children even spotted frogspawn and tadpoles in the pond.
