Nursery: Who helped to pull the Gigantic Turnip?
This week in Nursery we have been reading the story of the Gigantic Turnip. In this story, an old man and an old woman plant some seeds to grow vegetables. One of the turnips grows to be gigantic, so the old man cannot pull it up by himself. The old man and the old woman “pulled and heaved and tugged and yanked but the turnip would not move.” They then call all of their animals to help. In the end, “There was the old man, the old woman, the big brown cow, two pot belly pigs, three black cats, four speckled hens, five white geese, six yellow canaries and the little hungry mouse. They pulled and heaved and tugged and yanked and Pop! The turnip came out.” We have been thinking about how things grow and different ways that we can help each other.
