Children's safety - parking.

As you will know, Dorchester Primary School is committed to regular communication with parents and carers regarding how we expect vehicles to be parked on the roads and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of our children and wider community.

We have once again been advised of unsafe parking and incidents where accidents nearly happened. We would like to take this opportunity to remind anyone who travels to school by car of the importance of safe parking at all times. This includes parking over resident's driveways.

Unfortunately, it seems that out of the large number of parents and/or carers who travel to the school, a few spoil the collective reputation of the group by persistently ignoring basic highway codes and safety measures.

Please can we ask once again:

  • DO NOT park over driveways or dropped curbs (driveways begin where the curb starts to drop, not where the drop ends).
  • DO NOT park on double yellow lines.
  • NEVER leave your vehicle unattended if you are parked anywhere which could prevent access for a resident.
  • ALWAYS be respectful of each other and residents who live close to the school. It is completely unacceptable for anybody to act in an abusive manner towards a resident or another parent.
  • NEVER park or pull over the yellow zig zag markings outside the school during the signposted drop-off or collection times.
  • CONSIDER how your family travels to/from schools and walk, cycle or scoot if at all possible. We are currently in the middle of Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel campaign. Find out more here and in our recent news article. Now the weather is improving it is a great time to leave the car at home if possible.
  • PLAN your journey to school and if you must drive please allow sufficient time, including finding a safe place to park, including walking a few minutes if you are unable to find a parking space close by.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school and surrounding areas as safe as possible.
