Reception: Can you find objects that are longer or shorter than your foot?
What a busy week we have had. We started the week by reading the story of the Nativity. We related it to the lines that the children are learning for their performance, to help them see the whole story come together. We have also been practising our lines and learning the songs with Makaton signing. We suspect many parents are also learning the songs as well. The children seem very excited about the idea of performing to the parents. This week, the children had a visit from their Big Friends in Year 5. The Year 5 classes came down one at a time and spent time in the Reception Garden getting to know their Little Friends. We have some lovely events coming up that Big Friends and LIttle Friends will be able to share together. The children have been using their phonic knowledge to write lists this week. We thought about the characters and other things that appear in the Nativity and made a list of them. The children have learnt that a list is a way of recording a collection of things that we write down, putting one thing on each line, as opposed to a sentence, where the words go along a line. Both classes had a lesson in Hip Hop dance this week, with a teaching student working in Reception, who has a special interest in Hip Hop dance. They learnt a short routine which they were able to perform together. For their Maths learning, they have been learning to use the vocabulary of long, longer, longest, short, shorter and shortest.
