Year 6
What surprised you about the country you studied on Around the World Day?
We have had a special day this week, with a big focus on Geography. 'Around the World' Day on Friday, gave each class an opportunity to learn about one country in particular and practise map skills as well as learning about the country in creative ways. Year 6 each took a different country that is part of the United Kingdom and we started by looking at why the UK is made up of 4 countries. Some History, Politics, human and physical geography helped the children to understand about our country. Amethyst Class looked at Wales, Lavender Class focused on Scotland and Purple Class learnt about Northern Ireland. On Thursday 19th October, parents and carers are welcome to visit the school from 3.15 to see the learning we have been doing in Geography. In Maths this week, we have begun a big unit of work about Fractions and the need for a secure knowledge of times tables was made ever more clear. In English, we have been looking at persuasive writing and we are using these techniques to argue about Deforestation.
