  • Micro, Mini and Junior Duke Winner's Galas

    Published 19/07/24

On Monday and Wednesday we celebrated with all our Duke's form this year who were able to complete 7 out of 10 of the Duke challenges in their booklets. Our Micro Dukes were so proud of their achievements over the year, especially the speed-dressing in clothes that were inside out I hear! Adults, we know this requires a huge drive from you mainly too, especially with our Reception lot, so thank you endlessly! You have created even more marvellous opportunities for your amazing children.

Our Minis and Juniors spoke of their challenges faced with baking, tyre fixing, papier mache, eco initiatives and many more. It was so wonderful for all children who were successful in completing their challenges over the year to get together and share in each other's successes also.

Essential reminder to all! Even if you have not yet completed your 7/10 challenges, you may still continue to work on these over the Summer and on into the Autumn term, so please do not be disheartened if you did not quite make the gala this July - you can always complete your booklet right up to October half-term this year, then you can attend the Gala next July!

Thanks to all the adults who supported with their children's challenges at home, it really does help enormously and we cannot do this without you - and for the wonderful snack and drink donations, it made the events really special! Thanks to all the staff in school over the years for assessing challenges achieved, and for staff who helped out at the celebration Galas this week.

  • JLT Visit the Houses of Parliament

    Published 19/07/24

Well on a scorcher of a day, our JLT members remained effortlessly cool as they were toured around the Houses of Parliament showing themselves to be superb representatives of Dorchester Primary. They had the opportunity to sit in on a debate in the House of Commons on the theme of the Gaza war, a debate in the House of Lords on education and social care, then got to meet our local MP, Luke Taylor, and asked him some provocative and thoughtful questions: the three top questions put to Luke Taylor:
‘How are you going to help stop the war in Gaza?’
    Then:
‘How are you going to fix the deficits in schools?'
Followed up by arguably the most important question of all:
    ‘Are you double jointed?!’

After this incredible tour of the 1000 year old historical building, we had a picnic in Victoria gardens in the shade by the Thames, and then a quick climb and energy burn in Horseferry playground before returning to school, slightly hot and sweaty at this stage, but I was so proud to be leading such a wonderful group of children who really proved their worth. Thanks must go as well to the parent helpers who we are so grateful to for your support on trips like these.

    Published 19/07/24

Buzz Club Market Day for KS2 was back and even better this year.  After learning about entrepreneurship, the children in Buzz Club set up their own businesses and then sold their products to KS2 classes throughout the morning of Thursday July 18th.  They managed to raise an astonishing £468.85 in profit, which will be donated to Sutton Foodbank.  Thank you to everyone who supported the Market Day. The children learnt a lot and had a great time doing it.

  • Governor's Ambassador Meeting Visit

    Published 12/07/24

We had a governor's visit this week who had kindly requested to attend our Faith and Culture and Language Ambassadors meetings. We discussed what the children had taken part in and achieved over the year - reflecting on the successes and what could be improved from September for the next round of children who would succeed them in these roles. Our governor commented positively on how important it was to be offering such leadership opportunities, given the increasingly diverse nature of our school. We also thought about some next steps for them too, which was extremely useful.

"I really like being able to share all about our faiths and celebrations to the whole school, sharing who we are with everyone feels really special." Naveena, Y4

The children then got the chance to write their own personal profiles for what they had most enjoyed about holding these roles. These will hopefully inspire the next round of selected ambassadors which will be voted for and selected in September. It was noted that some children wanted to remain in these roles for two years! And we discussed why it was important that these changed annually, to ensure that everyone throughout their time at Dorchester got to lead in different areas of the wider curriculum over time, diversifying the leaders and varying opportunities for all.

  • Year 6 End of Year Performance Success

    Published 05/07/24

Huge congratulations to all of Year 6 children and staff for the collective efforts and incredible outcome of their wonderful performances this week. It was so obvious that the children really enjoyed performing, and all their hard work truly paid off. It was an utterly brilliant, hilarious and impressive performance; there really is some incredible acting and singing talent in Year 6. This marks though, sadly, one step closer to us having to say good bye to them, but not just yet! Thank you to all who supported on the night and came to watch, it is so much appreciated.
